What’s in the back of my mind during every wedding I shoot? It’s thinking ahead to try and avoid embarrassing moments like the ones featured in these videos. There’s only one real embarrassing moment that I had, which happened this year, where I wanted to take a shot at a higher vantage point during group pictures of a bridal party. I found an empty wine barrel that I could stand on, and I tested it to see if it can hold my weight. It seemed sturdy to me, so I climbed on top of it and without warning, the top gave way and I fell straight into the barrel. I remember walking away like it was nothing, but I was grimacing on the inside.
I never walk with the couple as they come down the aisle for exactly this reason. Also I don’t want to be a jerk and get in the way of other people’s shots.
I bet the photographer did just what I did: make it seem like nothing happened, but you’re really dying inside.

There must have been at least one person that said, “Hey there’s no way this thing can support all of our weight.”
I guess Russians are tough.
