Music to Life Song of the Week: Prisoner by The Weeknd and Lana Del Rey
The Weeknd is a new artist that I discovered that is definitely growing on me. The first song that I heard from him, which has had extensive radio play, is his hit Can’t Feel My Face. Prisoner is a track off his record “Beauty Behind the Madness” and it features Lana Del Rey. The song is about being wrapped up in one’s own addiction. Whatever the addiction may be, there’s always an inherent loneliness, and I wanted to portray that in this music inspired photo.
How I Shot It – Conceptual Photography
This is a composite image where three subject were photographed separately: the girl, the window sill, and the telephone. One of the most important things to pay attention to when creating a composite is to make sure the lighting is consistent with all the subjects. The window sill was shot with natural light, and I used that image as a reference point when shooting Valerie, the model, and the telephone. I used a strobe light with a soft box to light Valerie and the telephone, and after shooting, I layered all the images together using photoshop.
