Lindsay and Alex were married on October 21st, with a ceremony and reception at Walnut Grove Weddings in Moorpark, CA.
In the morning, my second shooter, Rusti Svalstrom of Viska Photography, started out the day with Alex and his groomsmen. Because they were on the same floor as Lindsay, we were able to stay in constant communication with each other to make sure Lindsay and Alex didn’t accidentally cross paths. I can’t say enough about how much I liked working with Rusti, not only in coordination but in the shots she was able to capture. I was super impressed by her creativity.
One of my favorite images of the day came when Lindsay was getting ready. I placed a flash behind her to get a cool silhouette of her with her makeup artist and hair stylist—and it ended up being one of my favorite getting-ready pictures I’ve ever done!
This was a particularly large wedding party, with 7 bridesmaids and 7 groomsmen, which can sometimes be difficult to manage. However, this group was so fun and easy to work with! We didn’t have any wanderers, and they listened to directions well.
The same was true of the whole family—on both sides. They were incredibly nice and accommodating, and I couldn’t have asked for a better group to work with. I especially loved listening to Lindsay’s family with their heavy New York accents chatting and enjoying themselves together. Both sets of parents were visibly emotional during the ceremony, which is always touching to see.
Lindsay had her own ideas about ways to incorporate her athletic, active lifestyle into the wedding party pictures. She’d brought a soccer ball to play with during the pictures, and we had a blast with it! At one point, I told Lindsay to kick the ball at the camera, and luckily, I was able to dodge out of the way just before I got my cool action shot.
That fun, creative vibe continued on into the reception as well. For their grand entrance, they had each member of the bridal party limbo into the reception, while Lindsay’s parents held the limbo stick. Then, once everyone was dancing, Lindsay and Alex threw large glow sticks out into the crowd for people to wave around and dance with. They both love going dancing at the club, so they wanted to have those club elements at their party as well.
Of course, there’s nothing like a classic image to sum up a wedding, and one of my favorite images of the day was the sunset picture. The glow of the sun gave us the perfect atmospheric effect!
Thank you, Alex & Lindsay, for allowing me to be part of your amazing day. I had so much fun with you as well as your amazing families!
